Frequently Asked Questions:
|
Here are answers to some questions I am frequently asked:Why might my child see the counselor? Counseling services might be helpful in a number of situations. Children who may benefit include those with low self-esteem, behavioral concerns, and social difficulties. Counseling might also be beneficial after a major life change such as moving from another school, divorce/separation of parents, or the loss of a loved one. How can my child see the counselor for individual or group counseling? Referrals may be made by the child, the teacher, the parent or another close family member, or by the administration. Referral forms for the children are located in every classroom and on the table outside the counseling office. Parents may make a referral in person, by phone, by leaving a note in the counseling mailbox, or by contacting their child’s teacher. Emailing private information is discouraged. What is the confidentiality policy? All counseling services are confidential. The content of the sessions is only shared if the child or someone else is at-risk for danger. Parents may be contacted with suggestions on how to support a child at home, but specifics from the counseling sessions will not be able to be shared without the child’s permission. |
